Surprise!

Recently I've been working a lot to help my mama organize her Etsy shop!
My mama is an amazing woman! I can't believe the creativity and time that go into each one of her flowers: mama carefully picks the fabric, then uses batik technique to dye it (if it's white), cuts out different petals, curves and irons each one of them with her special tools and assembles them all together! I am so proud of her and excited to share her shop with you!!

new green friend

Say "Hi!" to Fennel! I've never seen, cooked or eaten it before. It's not common in Russia, and it's hard to find it in a store. Fennel has a definite aroma of anise (think licorice) and a corresponding sweetish taste. My mom tasted my baked fennel and she described it as a mixture of celery and zucchini!

This is how to cook it:
Wash the fennel and dry it with a towel. Cut in thin slices and put the slices into a pan and fry for a few minutes. Then add cream and sour cream and stir until evenly blended. Shift this mixture into a deep baking dish. Sprinkle shredded parmesan cheese over the top. Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown and tender.
Serve immediately.

little note

I'm totally into spring cleaning recently, and it takes most of my free time. I just can't wait to get rid of the old stuff, mop everywhere and get everything sorted out. I think I'll report the results when I'm done :-)
Also tonight I made Philadelphia Uramaki for the first time ever (so don't judge the look too much!) and some regular rolls, too,  and now I'm waiting for my bunbun to come home and have a dinner.
Oh, yeah, and my birthday is just in 5 days! Terrifying :-)

March 5th - Curry!

Hi, this is Ben.  It's my day off and Katie is at work, so I am making curry for dinner and took some pictures.  This calendar and the sprouting plants reminded me again that spring is almost here!

P.S. The quote on the calendar below the date says: "Man" sounds good, but "monkey" promising.
